HOURLY WAGE: New Hire: $19.92 ·* 90 days: $20.90 ·* 1 year: $21.99 ·* 2 years: $23.19 ·* 3 years: $24.49

Performs difficult and complex clerical and keyboarding assignments which may involve heavy public contact. This class is characterized by the independent action of the incumbent in the performing of both routine and non-routine procedural problems. While data entry using a computer keyboard is an essential duty of employees of this class, extensive clerical duties are also required. Work may involve the use of a spread sheet and word processing program. Employees may act as a lead worker for other employees. Work is performed under general supervision. Knows the County’s Customer-Centered Culture principles, the County’s Mission, Strategic Plan and Core Values and demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction for all customers on a regular basis. Answers inquiries from the public according to established procedures by telephone or working at the counter. Responds to citizen concerns and complaints, including the explanation of departmental policies and regulations to other County employees and the general public and referral of complaints to the proper authority. Supervises and participates in the collection and compilation of complex statistical data from a variety of resource materials. Records data using a keyboard into established computer programs. May send public notices to area newspapers for publication. Performs mathematical computations using a calculator. May schedule and assign tasks to subordinate Clerks, and review their work for accuracy and completeness. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Knows the products they personally produce and the customers of each product. Listens to the “Voice of the Customer “and closes gaps between customer expectations and experience whenever possible.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a related field required. Thorough knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment, and of business, arithmetic, and English. Good knowledge of specific areas of County clerical work and of spread sheet and word processing programs. May require knowledge of real estate and/or legal terminology. Ability to train, plan, and coordinate the work of clerical employees. Demonstrated ability to maintain complex clerical records. Ability to make decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established procedures. Ability to read, interpret, and retain information and instructions from the Code of Iowa and handle changes in procedures resulting from legislative changes. Ability to operate standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to handle cash transactions. Ability to communicate effectively with the general public. Must pass a County physical examination which includes a drug test after offer of employment. Notary Public preferred. Regular work attendance required.
