ENGIE North America Inc

The University of Iowa Water Plant is a Grade IV Water Treatment facility, treating surface water and ground water, performing clarification and lime softening, and also utilizing reverse osmosis and activated carbon treatment processes. The minimum certification required to independently operate the University of Iowa Water Plant is a Class II Water Operator Certification. The student employment program at the Water Plant will be aimed toward helping students achieve a Water Operator Certification.
What you’ll do:
Student will be mentored by a certified water plant operator during their hours at work, unless completing assigned remote work.
Objectives:
  • Assist in the multiple stages of water treatment operations in practice, including sampling and analysis methods
  • Acquire knowledge of regulatory basis for water treatment including water quality requirements and effluent/by-product disposal requirements
  • Complete an IDNR-approved training course prior to taking the Class I Examination
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

What you bring:
  • Student must be enrolled at the University of Iowa
  • Prefer students in Engineering or Environmental Science programs
  • No Operator Classification is required
  • Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy
  • Could involve some lifting
  • Ability to use personal computer, calculator, and work with standard software applications

  • Must be able to detect and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communication.

  • Capable of performing repetitive motions as required.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hardhat, safety shoes, safety glasses, etc.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions.
  • The noise letter in this environment may exceed moderate.
