Water Distribution System Supervisor - City of Cedar Rapids, IA - Cedar Rapids, IA

Position Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm

Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, physical examination (if applicable) and drug screen are required prior to employment with the City of Cedar Rapids.

• Provides supervision and direction to the inspectors of capital improvement projects and private developments; coordinates work with other construction projects in the city
• Plans for and coordinates the repairs and maintenance of water mains, valves, and hydrants
• Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations
• Assists in the development and administration of the operating budgets and project accounting systems
• Coordinates and prepares bids and bid specifications
• Coordinates on future planning with street improvements and coordinates with traffic engineering for safety on projects
• Maintains inventory of necessary tools, hydrant parts, and pipe yard fittings
• Coordinates with fleet service on vehicle and equipment maintenance
• Serves as member of special project team for facility rehabilitation planning
• Performs related work as required

• High School diploma or equivalency and
• Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience of installation and maintenance of the distribution system, equipment operations, vehicle maintenance, and direct supervision experience or
• An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population

• Principles and practices uses and capabilities of automotive and heavy equipment, including maintenance, repair and design standards
• Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) hazards and safety standards for water distribution system construction and maintenance
• Water distribution requirements for fire protection, commercial and residential applications
• Construction and building trades including carpentry, concrete, hydraulic and plumbing construction and maintenance

• Assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, and reviewing work assignments.
• Inventory and process management

• Work cooperatively, and develop and maintain effective working relationships
• Read and interpret blueprints and construction specifications
• Prepare accurate and reliable reports
